What are Foot and Mouth Disease?
Foot and mouth disease are one of the most infectious animal diseases that affect the inner system of the animal. The disease spread from feet and mouth of the animals. It is a viral disease and spread quickly from one animal to another.
This disease is so contagious that it can be spread through cloths, touch, vehicles and even by feeding. Due to this reason the animal farming is being affected badly if the disease arrives. Consequently this affects the country’s economy in a large portion.
FMD Control Program
- As mentioned that the FMD disease can harm the animal farming and incur high economical losses, the government has started a program namely FMD control program to prevent such losses.
- Under this program there will be vaccinations for the affected animals and as prevention to the animals that are not affected as well. The program was initiated in 10th plan and still continues in 11th and 12th plan as well.
- The program has started in 6 union territories, 13 states and 351 districts where animals were taken care of and provided proper vaccination and medication. This program reduces the rate of FMD in several places in a large extent.
